JUVÉDERM®

Is an injectable gel consisting of hyaluronic acid which is a hydrating substance found naturally in the skin. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid in our skin resulting in facial wrinkles, sunken shadows underneath the eyes, receding lips and folds such as the ‘parentheses’ around our mouths.  JUVÉDERM® injectable gel can be strategically injected below the skin to bring back volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds.  FDA approved to treat facial wrinkles and folds, JUVÉDERM® has many other uses, off-label,  including use in the sunken area beneath the eyes, use in adding volume to the lip line, and use in enhancing cheek bones.

While other hyaluronic acid fillers on the market have a more granular consistency, JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first smooth-consistency hyaluronic filler. JUVÉDERM® also holds up over time, now FDA approved to last 1 year. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is indicated for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. There is also a hyaluronic acid reversal agent available to make corrections if needed.

For filling with JUVÉDERM® under the eyes or in folds of the face and mouth, a topical anaesthetic is applied 20 minutes prior to injection. The JUVÉDERM® is injected with little or no discomfort and the results are immediate.

If JUVÉDERM® is desired to bring out the natural upper and lower lip lines or to plump up the lips naturally, a full dental block is performed first with injectable lidocaine. The lip line is filled first, and the patient and medical professional together decide what degree of volume or plumping of the lips looks natural. The goal is not to make the lips stand out, rather balance with the face.
